How to Actually Make Money Online: A No BS Guide

I am tired of the false promises about making money online. Dropshipping, Amazon FBA and affiliate marketing all get sold as easy. They are usually a lot harder than the gurus admit.

I started in my parents’ spare bedroom with no money, no followers and no investors. I failed plenty first: fitness programs, random hustles, funnels that went nowhere.

Here is the lesson that finally worked. You do not need a fancy idea or a big audience. You need the right business model and the right way to start.

Most models work, but many trap you on a treadmill

Almost every business model can make money for someone. The problem is that many of them take too long, cost too much, or keep you running in place.

What you want is a vehicle that produces real cash flow in the first 30 days. Cash you can reinvest. Cash that lets you scale.

To find that vehicle, compare two numbers for every model: what it costs to get a customer, and what that customer pays you.

The numbers behind each business model

Here is how the common models stack up on customer acquisition cost, or CAC.

  • Dropshipping and Amazon FBA: CAC of $50 to $150 against an order value of $20 to $50. You lose money fast.
  • Affiliate marketing: cheap to start, but you need a big audience or a real ad budget to make it work.
  • Low ticket courses: CAC of $100 to $300 against a price of $27 to $97 a month. Payback takes six months or more, and only if customers do not cancel first.
  • Coaching, consulting and high ticket digital offers: CAC of $200 to $500 against offers of $1,000 to $3,000. That is a 3x to 10x return inside 30 days.

That last model is where I made my first millions. It is also where thousands of my clients have had the most success.

The 25% rule

As your price goes up, keep your acquisition cost under 25% of the offer price.

For example, on a $10,000 offer, you should spend no more than about $2,500 to get a client. Stay under that line and the math keeps working as you grow.

You do not need a following to get clients

You need a phone. That is it.

Shoot simple content. No heavy production, no fancy editing. A 30 second video shot on your phone can perform well. Post it on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok and YouTube.

When you can, add basic paid ads. That is how you get clients without being famous.

To keep up with the DMs, leads and follow ups that come from this, I use my own software, Elite 360, which automates that side of the business.

What to make content about

If you do not know what to post, start with a problem you have already solved in your own life. That is the most honest and most valuable thing you can share.

Most topics that sell fall into three buckets:

  1. Health and wealth: fitness, nutrition, mental health, money.
  2. Business and skills: marketing, freelancing, money skills, relationships.
  3. Personal life: dating, family, communication, parenting.

If you have solved a real problem in any of these areas, you have something people will pay to learn.

Three content formats that convert

Serious buyers are looking for education, not entertainment. So you need fewer views, but better ones. These three formats work.

Myth versus fact

Take a common belief and break it. For example: “You don’t need a huge audience to make money online.” Then explain why.

Big mistakes

Call out the biggest mistake people make. For example, the number one reason most people fail to start a business.

Quick wins

Give away something specific and useful, like the exact script you used to close your first client at $1,500.

Then add a lead magnet call to action. Tell viewers to comment a keyword to get a free step by step guide on launching their first digital offer. That pulls leads straight out of your videos and posts.

Raise what each client is worth

Smart businesses do not chase cheap leads. They raise the value of every client they already get.

There are a few simple ways to do it:

  • Raise your prices.
  • Add upsells or advanced packages.
  • Offer repeat services.
  • Keep people longer with community and accountability.

My client Kyle is a good example. He is a CPA. He ran a five day challenge that sold a $2,000 application that day trades for customers. Right after that, he offered financial planning at about $15,000 per client.

That one upsell took his lifetime value per client from about $2,000 to about $10,000. Same leads, much bigger business.

The 30 day cash flow rule

This is my personal rule. Get your money back within 30 days.

If you spend $500 on ads and make $1,500 in sales, you are ahead. Keep doing that.

When you are new, you cannot afford to lose money up front and wait months to earn it back. You need a fast return. That is exactly why high ticket coaching and consulting beats the models that make you wait.

Once your first sales are coming in from content or ads, put systems in place so you can scale without juggling ten different apps.

The takeaway

Stop picking business models based on hype. Pick them based on math.

Look at what it costs to get a customer and what that customer pays you in the first 30 days. Coaching and consulting win that comparison for most people starting out. Start with a problem you have solved, post simple content, raise the value of each client, and get your money back inside a month.
