Selling somebody else’s offer is a fine way to start. Blake started there. At the beginning of the year he was making zero, got into affiliate marketing, and had made about 15 grand by the time he joined us.
Then he built his own offer, sold it high ticket from his house, and that number went to almost $50K made. Part time. While working a full time job at his family’s business.
And now he’s stepping away from that job to do his own thing online. He told the whole story to my team in this interview.
Why he stopped selling other people’s stuff
Affiliate is how a lot of people get their first online dollars, and there’s nothing wrong with it. But you don’t control the offer, the price, or what happens after the sale. You don’t want to be at the mercy of the other guy.
Blake said he had zero experience creating his own offer when he came in. That’s what he wanted to fix. He said the biggest breakthrough was getting the confidence to put an offer together and sell it high ticket right away, without a ton of experience in the field, and doing it successfully.
He doubled his income solely off his own offer. Same guy, same limited hours. The difference is the offer was his.
Endless DMs were killing him
This is the part I think a lot of people need to hear. Before, Blake said he was basically relying on messaging people back and forth for super long periods of time, and it wasn’t sustainable.
I see this constantly. Someone’s got a pile of conversations going in their DMs, each one 30 messages deep, and nobody’s buying. It’s like texting a girl for three weeks and never asking her out. Get her on a date. In business that means get them on the phone.
What we helped him do was put strategies in place to get leads on a call and turn that call into a sales opportunity. He said it kept him off Messenger more, got him on the phone more, and got him comfortable speaking one to one with people. And when you’ve got a 9 to 5, that’s the only way the math works. You don’t have time for 30 message threads. You’ve got an hour in the evening. Put the calls in that hour.
In person sales doesn’t automatically carry over
Blake’s not new to selling. He’s worked his family business his whole life and had in person sales experience. But he said taking it online was something he’d never done, and it’s a little different.
My team’s take was that you need a bit more finesse online. I agree. In person you’ve got body language, a handshake, the whole room. On a call it’s your voice and your questions, so you’ve got to lead the conversation more. The good news is, if you can sell at all, the skill carries over once you get the reps in. And if you can sell, you can pretty much always find work.
Building an offer you can deliver on
One thing Blake said that I liked a lot: learning how to structure the offer correctly and make sure he’s actually fulfilling it. Not selling something and then not delivering on it.
That should be obvious, but it isn’t. When people first sell their own thing high ticket, the temptation is to promise the moon on the call. Then they’ve got clients and no clue how to deliver. What I’d do is build the offer around what you can actually get people, then sell that. The result is what they’re paying for.
He also said he’d never coached anyone before, so developing his leadership skills was huge. Going from affiliate to coach means people are relying on you now, not on some company you sent them to. That’s a different level of responsibility.
Ads were a blank page too
Blake had some familiarity with organic lead gen but zero with ads. He learned how to run them the right way in the program.
For 99% of the people who aren’t Mr Beast, you have to pay for attention at some point. Organic is great, but it’s slow and it depends on you showing up every single day. When you’ve got a full time job, paid traffic does some of that showing up for you. You just have to know your numbers so you’re not lighting money on fire.
The year and a half he didn’t waste
When my team asked what he’d tell someone on the fence, Blake said if you try to figure this out on your own, you’re going to waste another year and a half. He felt he saved a year’s worth of trial and error by getting what he needed right away and acting on it right away.
He also said that in his position, working a 9 to 5 and trying to do this alone, he probably wouldn’t have made more than two grand. Let’s say he’s right. Two grand versus almost 50. That’s about a 48 grand difference, give or take, off the same part time hours.
Success likes speed. The longer you go without getting results, the more likely it is you quit. Blake got results fast enough that quitting never came up, and now he’s the one leaving the job.
So if you’re doing affiliate or selling someone else’s thing on the side, look at what Blake changed. His own offer, priced high ticket, sold on the phone instead of in endless DMs, and delivered properly. That’s it.
