How Carly Closed a $5,900 Client in 90 Days

I’ll start with the part of Carly’s interview I liked most, which has nothing to do with her own numbers. One of her clients closed a $63,000 project the day before she sat down to talk. A couple weeks before that, the same guy did a $110,000 one.

That’s what happens when the coach gets better. The clients get better too.

Carly has been with us about 90 days. She closed a $5,900 client and a $5,400 client in that time, and she said a big part of it was learning that selling online is a different animal from what she was used to.

Ten years in sales and still something to learn

Carly isn’t new to selling. She’s been in sales for about a decade, all different kinds of products, coaching, property, all sorts. So you’d think she’d walk in and close everything.

But she said it pretty clearly. Selling an online program is different from being in person with someone and selling a physical product. Different conversation, different objections, different everything.

I see this a lot with people who’ve sold before. They have the skill, which is huge, but the context changed and they keep running the old playbook. It’s like a great baseball player switching to golf. Hand eye coordination helps a ton. The swing is still different.

The good news is people with sales experience pick it up fast once they see it. Carly closed a couple of big deals pretty quickly after joining.

Watching other people’s calls get picked apart

The thing she pointed to most was the sales call reviews. I go through people’s sales calls and critique them. She said those happen twice a week, and she called them invaluable, like you can’t even put a price on them.

And I agree with her, obviously I’m biased lol. But think about how most people learn sales. They get on a call, it goes bad, and they have no idea why. They just kind of feel like it went bad. Then they do the exact same thing on the next call.

When you watch someone else’s call get broken down, you see the mistake from the outside. You hear the exact moment the lead checked out. You hear what should have been said instead. Then you go on your own call and catch yourself doing the same thing.

It’s like watching game film. Every good football team does it. Playing more games helps, but watching what happened and fixing it is where the jump comes from. Same thing with sales.

On top of that she mentioned there are calls every day she can tune into. So she’s learning the stuff and she’s around people doing the stuff at the same time.

She felt alone after quitting her job

Before she came in, Carly had quit her job to go full time in her business. And she said the biggest thing was she felt lonely. No community.

People don’t talk about this enough. You leave a job and suddenly there’s no one around. No coworkers, no one to bounce ideas off, no one who gets what you’re trying to do. Your friends with jobs think you’re kind of crazy.

She said community is such an important part of reaching goals and having the mindset to push through and go after big ones. Being around people who are chasing the same stuff changes what feels normal to you.

So for her it was two things that fixed it. The people, and the actual business strategy, learning what she needed to learn to start making more money online and feel confident about scaling.

Her clients started winning

Okay so back to the part I opened with.

Carly said everything she’s learning has helped her with fulfillment too, helping her own clients hit big goals. One of them closed that $63,000 project the day before the interview. A couple weeks earlier, a $110,000 one. And a couple of smaller ones before that.

Another client of hers opened a brand new agency and landed his very first retainer client at $5,000 USD a month.

Quick math on that retainer, 5 grand a month is 60 grand a year from one client, give or take. For a brand new agency that’s a big deal.

I think this is the best test of whether a coach is any good. Can you get your own clients results? If your clients aren’t winning, nothing else matters much. Carly’s clients are winning, which means the stuff she’s learning is getting passed down and actually used.

She read the bad reviews first

This part made me laugh. Carly said she’s the type who reads every testimonial and every rating before buying anything. And she saw a few comments that said don’t waste your money.

She joined anyway. Now her take is that it’s anything but a waste of money.

Look, every business that does any volume has some people who aren’t happy. That’s just how it works. When you get more clients, you get more complaints. What I’d do is what Carly did, read all of it, then look at what the people inside are actually doing.

She also said she got to meet me at an event about a month before, and said some nice stuff I won’t repeat here because it’d be weird lol.

What I’d take from Carly

If you’ve sold before, don’t assume it all carries over to selling online. Watch good calls, watch bad calls, get yours picked apart. Get around people so you’re not doing it alone in your house. And then judge yourself by whether your clients win.

Her answer to anyone on the fence was simple. Do it. Go for it.

That’s it.
